MongoDB Community Edition misses many capabilities required to deploy it in a highly demanding enterprise environment. Here are some of those missing capabilities: external authentication, data-at-rest encryption, backups with point-in-time recovery, and advanced monitoring. To get those capabilities and others, you must buy a MongoDB Enterprise Advanced license.

Regardless of whether you’re thinking about the move or already using MongoDB Enterprise Advanced, in this talk, we’ll show you an alternative free from spiraling costs and vendor lock-in: Percona Distribution for MongoDB. You’ll learn about its capabilities and how to make a quick switch from MongoDB Community Edition or MongoDB Enterprise Advanced.

Percona Backup for MongoDB (PBM) is the only open source tool available for getting a consistent backup for a sharded MongoDB cluster as well as a simple Replica Set. Logical and physical backup methods are available. Point-in-time recovery is also available and easy to implement. In this talk, we’ll show how PBM works and present some internal insights. It’s astonishing how easily you can manage your backups – and for free.
